Walter Carsen: 1912-2012

While we here at Peggy Baker Dance Projects are incredibly sad to hear of the passing of Walter Carsen, we happily remember how much joy, beauty, talent, and artistic accomplishment his generosity has made possible.

Walter was a huge supporter of Canadian dance, in particular the National Ballet of Canada. You can read about his long friendship with that organization on their website.

The Toronto Star has published an article celebrating the noted philanthropist, who sang Canada’s praises in a recent interview:

“I feel gratitude to Canada for what it has allowed me to achieve. When I see a need I believe in, I want to help. Money is here to be spent. Give it where you love it and where it gives pleasure to others.”

Thank you, Walter, for a century-long life supporting and celebrating Canadian artists! You will be missed.
